cat antics darknotezero - 84 views - 4 weeks ago
Amanda and Mark recently got a new kitten (named George Porter), and while cat-sitting and doing laundry while they were away on vacation, i decided to take some video of some of George Porter's antics. Mainly tail-chasing and deciding that laundry fresh out of the dryer function as good cat toys.

Stepmania - Piano Phase Remix 8-finger chart with hands showing darknotezero - 64 views - 1 month ago
To put to rest any doubt from my prior video from March of 2007 about whether or not this was actually done by a human being and because a part of me misses actually playing stepmania since i don't play it at all anymore, i decided to redo this chart with my hands showing.

doing this again revealed to me how much my right pinky absolutely sucks. it kind of makes me want to start playing stepmania and iidx again, if i felt like i had the time and energy.

the loud crash sound was my cat chasing after random inanimate objects.

To be clear about credit:

The original Piano Phase is an early composition by Steve Reich from 1967, one of the original minimalist composers and one who still influences much of my compositional voice today.

The Piano Phase Remix was done by "D-Note" (which although sounds similar to my handle of "darknote" is not me) and is one of the tracks on the "Reich Remixed" album.

The stepchart was authored and executed by me.

Cheers.

2'22" of thunderstorm phasing doodling darknotezero - 37 views - 1 month ago
this is me doing some exercises in visual and aural manipulation in final cut pro. it was mainly to help remind me about the effect of phasing, done in several parts.

1 - original video with duplicate video slowed down by 1 second. This was mainly for visual effect.

2 - original video with duplicate video slowed down by 0.5 seconds. this was mainly for aural effect with the barberpole/phasor effect and the changes to the rain sound.

3 - original video with duplicate video slowed down by 0.5 seconds but ending together instead of starting together. I like this one the best, how the phasing shapes the soundscape at the end, even if it is kind of cliché.

4 - original video overlay with duplicate video slowed down by 0.5 sec and rotated 180 degrees and a third overlay slowed down by 1 sec, zoomed in and rotating in a constant circle. As a result of some aural bitrate conversion, there ended up being some artifacts in this one that weren't in the original compile. i decided not to care so much because this is my least favorite; lacks focus and interest after a while because it doesn't have the same sense of evolving that the first three do.

i may take the aural or visual portion of this video and do something more with it, but that's very low on the priority totem pole right now because of the amount of creative and rendering work i would need to do to turn this into something more substantial. we'll see what happens in the spring, though.

This is just a capture of one of the more heavy thunderstorms that occurred in my neighborhood in May of 2009. Having recently transplanted from Oregon where rain and thunder like this never happens, it warranted some video documentation from me.

Star of Indiana 1993 Finals Video with Percussion Judge's Tape Audio - Part 2 darknotezero - 471 views - 3 months ago
This is the second half of the Star of Indiana 1993 show "Music of Barber and Bartok" with an overlay of the percussion judge's tape.

Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the video in digital form nor do i have the means to convert my VHS copy to one at the moment, so the video i used was an extraction of the Star 93 show that exists on youtube as uploaded by jriada. Apologies for the poor video quality as a result of that; if i get a better copy of the video, i may reupload this project.

Also because of the nature of the video encode i extracted, the audio of the judge's tape was not even close to being in sync with the video, so the speed of the judge's tape has been manipulated to match the video. I didn't do as good of a job with the sync on this part as the first part, but i figured it was good enough.

Stepmania/DDR - Host by Plaid (AAA) darknotezero - 232 views - 4 months ago
I came out of stepchart authoring retirement to write this stepchart because the song is awesome. it was written in January of 2009, the first stepchart i've written since DSR Squared and probably the last until Plaid releases their next album Scintilli. The song is from the soundtrack to the Michael Arias film "Heaven's Door".

The chart is meant to be played with the feet, an ITG difficulty 11. The last section of double beats are conceived of as being executed afronova style. this AAA was done on stepmania with the fingers.

Apologies for the fuzzy screen.

Stepmania/DDR - Max 289 darknotezero - 38 views - 4 months ago
This is a chart i wrote in 2004 that i call "Max 289". It's essentially a Max 300 hybrid, mimicking the original "Heavy" chart exactly, but various beats were taken out of the music and the chart to give it an irregular feel. I like how confusing it is when you try to play this and Max 300 back to back.

small dog yipping, big dog drooping darknotezero - 61 views - 5 months ago
in a parking lot in tennessee where i was for hurricane gustav evacuation, we passed by this car. the contradiction of the smaller dog going ballistic and the bigger dog being relatively calm felt like something that needed to be captured. they were both very cute.

It's been a while since i've done this course. I'm annoyed that i can't full combo solina anymore. pandemonium was a little sloppy too. oh well. final count was around 100 excellents, 8 greats, 2 misses.
