The remake is a scene for scene remake using the same script. It's not awful, in fact, it's actually pretty good, just not as good as the original.

I have loved this movie for over 50 years! It's so perfectly cast. The John Barrymore character is a bit wearing, but in the end, oddly moving. Dressler is the best, and one wants more of her than there is. You miss her when she's off screen.
