The Corrs est un groupe pop irlandais aux fortes influences celtiques, dont les membres sont frère et sœurs.
Biographie
Les quatre membres du groupe font partie de la famille Corr, et sont nés à Dundalk (Irlande, Comté de Louth).
Leur premier album, Forgiven Not Forgotten, un subtil mélange de tradition irlandaise et de musique pop, a eu son plus grand succès en Australie. Les chansons les plus connues sont Runaway et Forgiven Not Forgotten.
L'album suivant, Talk On Corners, a été très populaire en Irlande et en Angleterre. Il contient notamment What Can I Do et Dreams (reprise du groupe Fleetwood Mac). Ils atteignent le sommet de leur art avec l'album Unplugged en acoustique et secondés par un orchestre symphonique.
In Blue marque un virage dans le style musical du groupe qui devient plus pop afin de séduire le marché américain. Ils collaborent ainsi avec le producteur Robert John Mutt Lange qui n'est autre que le mari de la chanteuse Shania Twain. Il compose avec eux les tubes Breathless, Irresistible et All The Love In The World.
Borrowed Heaven marque un certain retour aux sources après une longue pause de quatre ans. L'album contient des ballades mélancoliques (Angel, Long Night...) et des chansons rythmées pleines de joie de vivre, comme le tube Summer Sunshine.
Leur dernier album, simplement intitulé Home, est un hommage au folklore celtique qui les a inspirés, et propose de nombreuses reprises de chansons traditionnelles irlandaises douces et poétiques, dont deux sont chantées en gaélique, Buachaill on Eirne et Brid Og Ni Mhaille. Il a notamment remporté un important succès en France, en devenant disque d'or seulement un mois après sa sortie. Home a été vendu à plus de 340 000 exemplaires en France. Depuis 2005, le groupe s'accorde une pause.
Cependant, Andrea a décidé de continuer sa carrière sans ses frère et soeurs. En 2007, elle réalise un album solo intitulé Ten Feet High avec ses deux premiers singles Shame on You (To Keep My Love From Me) et Champagne from a Straw. L'album a été produit par Nellee Hooper, Bono et Gavin Friday.
En janvier 2006, le nombre d'albums vendus par les Corrs approche les 60 millions d'après the Irish Singles Chart.
Après des rumeurs de la part des médias, leur retour avec un album fin 2008 a été confirmé par Sharon, invitée de l'émission télé "The Afternoon Show" sur la chaîne irlandaise RTE One le 31 octobre 2007. Sharon a donné plus d'informations sur l'actualité du groupe mi-octobre. Le groupe devrait revenir dans les deux ans à venir c'est à dire fin 2009- début 2010. En attendant, Sharon Corr sortira un album solo début 2009 restant dans le style du groupe.
Membres
Andrea Corr : Chant, tin whistle (flûte traditionnelle irlandaise). Son nom complet est Andrea Jane Corr, et est née le 17 mai 1974 à Dundalk en Irlande. Elle est la benjamine des trois sœurs. Non seulement, Andrea est dotée d'une magnifique voix mais aussi elle sait jouer du piano. Elle a les yeux marrons, les cheveux bruns et a été élue plus belle femme d'Irlande en 1999. C'est la chanteuse principale du groupe, mais ses sœurs et son frère lui sont d'une aide très précieuse.
Sharon Corr : Chant, violon, piano, de son vrai nom Sharon Helga Corr-Bonnar et est née le 24 mars 1970 à Dundalk. Elle est l'ainée des trois sœurs. Comme sa sœur Andrea, elle a déjà été élue plus belle femme d'Irlande. De plus, elle joue du violon depuis l'âge de 6 ans et demi. Elle n'a pratiquement jamais raté de leçons si bien qu'elle pourrait aujourd'hui enseigner cette discipline.
Caroline Corr : Chant, batterie, percussions, piano, bodhràn (tambour traditionnel irlandais). Son nom entier est Caroline Georgina Corr-Woods. Caroline est née le 17 mars 1973, le jour de la Saint-Patrick, une fête très célèbre en Irlande, dans la ville natale du groupe, Dundalk. Caroline mesure 1,60 m, a les yeux bleus et ses cheveux sont châtains clairs. Elle est la batteuse du groupe. A été élue femme la plus sexy d'Irlande en 2005. Elle a également reçu un prix pour son travail en tant que batteuse au sein de la formation, ce qui est peu commun dans un groupe de rock de cet accabit, et ce qui a grandement contribué à l'originalité du groupe.
Jim Corr : Guitare, claviers de son vrai nom James ('Jim') Steven Ignatius Corr. Jim est né le 31 juillet 1964 à Dundalk. Il est l'aîné de toute la famille Corr. Jim a appris à jouer de la guitare vers l'âge de 13 ans. Tout comme ses sœurs, il a également appris à jouer du piano très jeune (vers l'âge de 4 ans).
