About this user
Martin Klabunde is an initiated Nahual, whose mission is to provide a path of awakening through music, with over 20 years of teaching, performance, and class and workshop facilitation experience. He has made over ten trips and spent over three years in Mexico and East and West Africa, where he studied the native music with initiated masters and participated in traditional rites of passage, healing ceremonies and shamanic rituals. His passion is how music is used in developing and maintaining a spiritual path through ceremony and ritual. He is devoted to revealing a path of awakening through music and service to others.
Martin is a professional musician and a Certified Professor for Mamady Keita's Tam Tam Mandengue International School of the Djembe. He is also an advanced student of a master healer from Mexico, who has taught Martin the ancient rites of Portal Drumming and Healing Ceremonies.
He is the director of The Dambe Project, a Tucson-based non-profit organization that specializes in youth mentorship and utilizes West African performance art (www.dambe.org). Since 2003, Martin has taught music in over 75 schools in Arizona and facilitated drum circles and interactive presentations for audiences ranging from 10 to 800 people. In 2009, Martin founded Collective Awakening, an organization committed to providing pathways for spiritual awakening to all peoples. Using his experience in music, shamanism, community development, public speaking and his own spiritual awakening, Martin brings a wealth of artistry, knowledge and wisdom to the classes, workshops and retreats he facilitates around the country.
