"I was raised to be 100% black, but a few years ago that changed. As it turns out, the reason people were always asking me if I was half-white, was because I am.
Growing up I got into fights with people who suggested I might be part white, or asked if I was adopted when they met only one of my parents. I had to identify primarily as black because of my family secrets, my career and because identifying as multiracial is still controversial. Our culture needs to talk about this." - damali ayo
