Bellingham Shipyards was the largest privately owned wooden shipyard in the nation to win the maximum amount of Navy "E" awards during WWII. The Navy often cited The Bellingham Shipyards as an example of quality, efficiency and production. The shipyard prospered during the Korean conflict and produced ships for Navies around the globe. Arch Talbot, the founder of the shipyard also developed the first line of production fiberglass recreation boats. pioneered laminated beams and established the largest cold storage facility on the west coast.
