Laser harp installations, from 8 to 32 low powered red and/or green lasers. Lap sized to room sized.Custom designed and sculpted from natural highly figured wood. I have been building one-of-a-kind custom harps since 1978.My training includes two years of Classical Italian violin building at the Violin Making School of America.

I built my first laser beam harp in 1999, and have used several different midi controllers over the years. I am currently using the OptiMusic midi controller and software system, from Britain. This system is usually used with colored visible light beams. It is a very rich software program, is fully programmable, with a full built-in synthesizer and wave event editor. The synthesizer has a full range of instrument sounds, and any wave file can be loaded into the program and edited.

The software and controller have the capacity for 32 laser beams to be triggered. The software can react to up to 70 activations of a laser beam per second with sound generation. The OptiMusic software I use is fully programmable and allows multiple layers of sound to be achieved via the option to have any beam be a master or secondary beam in the laser triggering. The programing options for single beams include 'play any beam', on/off one sound or segments of a loop, as in 'record scratching', play to end, play as loop till broken again, and more in combinations. With the master/ secondary function, a beam can play in loop, and then be broken again to change to a second, third and more, different background sound or instrument.

I build these harps in 8,16, and 32 laser beam sizes, with red, green and/or blue low powered lasers. I usually use class II, 5mw lasers, which are considered safe for all public interaction, but may use more powerful lasers in certain applications.

I am working on an 'infinite beam' laser harp design, to try to use these lower powered lasers in such a harp. I would just use a set of lasers, rather than splitting the beam of one high powered one. The beams would be reflected back to the harp body, to different optic sensors, for different sound sand effect.
This type of laser harp can use any midi controller, and software, since the beams are not"inverse".
