Although these guys had played together in various rock and blues bands over the years, it took the love of classic Blue Note sides and 60's bossa to convince them to step out in this format. With Mike Farias laying down a funky and swinging pocket along with Squid's electric bass, Brad Kohl is featured on his soulful but melodic saxophones (he also plays a mean shaker if he thinks no one is listening). The band also brings in original music to complement it's interpretations of jazz classics, and features world beat and R&B grooves along with classic swing. Rather than use this music as an excuse to show off chops or play outside, the band focuses on the songs and playing them in a manner that allows any audience to relate to what they are doing. This accessibity has allowed Cu-Bop to perform sucessfully in both listening clubs and as entertainment for private functions.
