About Me:
The place to read about the natural history of the world is the world itself, not the transmitted superstitions of stone age savages (the Old Testament), not the wish-fulfillment ramblings of a near-illiterate messianic cult (the New Testament), not the extortionist superstitious threats and ravings of an unsuccessful shepherd (the Quran).
Robert G. Brown
It is time to take stock: What has the intelligent design movement achieved? As science, nothing. The goal of science is to increase our understanding of the natural world, and there is not a single phenomenon that we understand better today or are likely to understand better in the future through the efforts of ID theorists. If we are to look for ID achievements, then, it must be in the realm of natural theology. And there, I think, the movement must be judged not only a failure, but a debacle.
Stephen Barr
So forget Jesus, the stars died so that you could be here today
Lawrence Krauss
We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depth of our answers.
-Carl Sagan.
DEBATING CREATIONISTS on Evolution is like playing chess with a pigeon — it knocks over the pieces, craps on the board, and then flies back to its flock to claim victory. -Scott D. Weitzenhoffer
We're all connected, to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, and to the rest of the universe atomically. That's kinda of cool. That makes me smile. And I actually feel quite large at the end of that. It's not that we're better than the universe. We're part of the universe. We're in the universe, and the universe is in us.
--Neil Degrassi
It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it's the parts that I do understand.
— Mark Twain
When I am on the cosmic frontier, and I touch the laws of physics with my pen, or when I look upon the endless sky from an observatory on a mountaintop, I well up with an admiration for its splendor. But I do so knowing and accepting that if I propose a God beyond that horizon, one who graces our valley of collective ignorance, the day will come when our sphere of knowledge will have grown so large that I will have no need of that hypothesis.
--Neil Degrassi
We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.
- Stephen Hawking
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
— Carl Sagan
I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms.
— Albert Einstein
I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a man nailed to two pieces of wood.
— George Carlin
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.
- Richard Dawkins
Definition of Christianity: the belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree
-- Unknown.
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
- Stephen Roberts
Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.
- Don Hirschberg
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
- Epicurus
Faith does not give you the answers, it just stops you asking the questions.
- Frater Ravus
When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion.
- Robert Pirsig
Religion is like a virus that affects the behaviour of its host in such a way as to propagate itself further.
- Jack Pritchard
Todays religion will be the futures mythology. Both believed at one time by many; but proved wrong by the clever.
- Steven Crocker
