Creature, while on the surface seems to be a strange name, is actually fitting considering his elaborately constructed past. Claiming to have been born in a small Peruvian village with an unpronounceable name, Creature spent most of his early days tending to the herd on his fathers llama farm. "It was through the art of observation, that I developed a love for all creatures; both for their boundless energy as well as their constant innate fear of being eaten." Deep down inside, however, Creature knew there was something missing in his life, and, thus, began his quest to find his purpose. "It was only after making my way to the United States of America, that I discovered girls, disco, and the art of moving picture." While girls and disco had their merits, it was film that interested Creature most.In just over a year behind the camera, Creature has gracefully applied his cinematic touches to standouts like NHLs Shed and Batting cage, which earned him a spot in Shoot Magazines 2007 New Directors Showcase, as well as inclusion into the 2007 Long Island International Film Expo for his short film Mere Suggestion. Both honors come on the heels of helming two cinematic spots for the Oregon State Lottery out of BPN in Portland and a PSA for the March of Dimes out of Mullen.
With a keen and dark sensibility for observing the strange and surreal, Creature loves to let the story be discovered by the viewer as evidenced by the strangely obsessive hockey fans in his NHL work. "Its important to make people feel something. I love being able to paint these subtle layers onto a story to give the work a more visceral texture."
On his works distinctively cinematic tone: "I dont care much for reality. I want to take people out of their living rooms. Thats the reason we all watch television and films in the first place, to escape from reality. Why cant an insurance commercial take you on a ride too? The motion of the camera, the action, even the music is extremely important to how the story can influence someone. Im very fanatic about how everything will flow together to create that visual song and dance."
Creatures use of subtle humor and cinematic drama is also evident in his Hitchcock-esque short film, Mere Suggestion. "I just loved the idea that, even as adults, we still somehow manage to believe theres a monster under the bed. Or in this case the kitchen. Its funny how a good story can still freak out our emotions."
With a self portrait that could only be described as a scientific breakthrough in genetics and one of the most unfortunate names youve heard of in a long time, one could amass that Creature has, thus far, successfully managed to both escape from reality and avoid being eaten.
