Creative Cape Town communicates, supports and facilitates the development of the creative and knowledge economy in the Central City of Cape Town.

WHO ARE WE

Creative Cape Town is one of the programmes of the Cape Town Partnership, a public-private organisation tasked to develop, promote and manage Cape Town Central City.

The Partnership was established nearly ten years ago - in July 1999. By engaging with a variety of stakeholders, the Partnership and the Central City Improvement District (CCID), which it manages, have largely reversed the underlying problems of urban degeneration of the Central City.

It is now working on a new vision for the next 10 years, building on the successes and learning from challenges along the way. One of the 5 key outcomes of this vision as described in a Central City Development Strategy
(CCDS) is to ensure that the Central City is a leading centre for knowledge, innovation, creativity and culture in Africa and the South.

Creative Cape Town drives all strategies to achieve this goal. Its strength lies in the dynamic partnerships it fosters both within and without the Central City through networking opportunities, information sessions and support strategies.

WHAT WE DO

Creative Cape Town works to nurture and support the growth of the creative and knowledge economy. The creative and knowledge economy includes the full range of creative and cultural industries, educational institutions, the developmental and non-profit sectors as well as related organisations and
businesses contribute to make the Central City area a place of innovation, dynamism, and exclusivity's. Creative Cape Town helps to raise the profile of and helps build the capacity of the Central City as a place for production and innovation through:

1.The Creative Cape Town Clusters: quarterly structured opportunities for information sharing, and networking, focusing on local case studies, with the aim of building a proactive creative milieu in the Central City.

2.A monthly Creative Cape Town E News, and a strong social networking focus - a Facebook Fan Page, Twitter and Flickr accounts

3.An ongoing research study helps generate knowledge on the local creative and knowledge economy. (visit the website www.capetownpartneship.co.za)

4. Publications: The Creative Cape Town Annual - a 72 page glossy snapshot of the creative economy. The Explore Creative Cape Town map .

5. Advocacy projects - the East City Design Initiative and Word Design Capital

Creative Cape Town works to increase the numbers of visitors to the Central City by signposting, building an interest in, and facilitating the development of cultural tourism attractions. It collaborates with Cape Town Tourism, events and cultural venues to promote the Central City of Cape Town as a desirable destination and as a cultural hub

WHO WE WORK WITH

Creative Cape Town works primarily with government institutions, organisations and events working in and around the creative and knowledge economy of the Cape Town Central City. Partners Include: Design Indaba, the Cape Town Jazz Festival, The Africa Centre, The District Six Museum, Zip Zap Circus, Cape Craft and Design Institute, Cape Mic, Cape Film Commission, University of Cape Town, and The Cape Peninsula University of Technology amongst others.
