taking off the strings would make the neck backbow,to do this type of fret-level you must have the neck set straight with NO relief,

EXAMPLE,remove all your strings off your bass now would you attempt to fret-level your neck the way it looks now with no string tension ? Billy is great to listen ...

the GOTOH bass replacement is great and only 35.00-40.00$,little more weight but still fit under the chrome cover.

@SsSLAURSsS As a drummer and a bassist I am fully aware of the capabilities of my bandmates,I dont think this guys horrible playing would come as a suprise to the band,he did'nt just miss a note or flubb the timing,he totally blew it and it should'nt have been such a SUPRISE he was that bad.

The only drummer I have yet to hear screw-up/timing/miss etc.....is Bonham,its not a opinion I have always preferred live music over studio and have yet to hear a glitch by him.and qualify myself I have been a drummer for 30 yrs and a bassist for 9,so I know a boo-boo when I hear one.

they leave it un-shaped for copywright infringement laws,it would have to be licensed through Fender(or other brands copywright)to have it cut like it.so they let the customer cut the h/stock(if not it will have massive neckdive with a GIANT h.stock)

The older single coil p-basses requier a "good touch"to get a vintage tone without all the noise and fret-buzz,flats will help it out the most but it taks a special touch as well.

In my tens yrs fixing and playing basses I have found a great bassist can make a 100.00$ bass sound like a 1000.00$ bass,this is a good basic idea of the differences of tones but like I tell my customers sit and play each of them them for yourself on the same amp,strings...ETC.
