An oasis for free thinkers
About Me:
I'm a huge fan of basketball, so i'll list my Top 5 players at each position. Now you must remember that I'm only 38 years old and I've been watching basketball since the 1976-77 nba season, so i don't rank the older legends because I don't believe that espn and hardwood classics, plus the old highlights give ME (I'm only speaking for myself here people) enough evidence 2 properly rank these older superstars. With that being written, here are "My Top 5 Players of All-Time at each Position in NBA History". Now remember family, if i don't rank your favorite player where YOU THINK I should have ranked them DON'T TAKE THIS AS A DISRESPECT TO YOURSELF (LOL) OR YOUR FAVORITE PLAYER, THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION - which i feel (believe) i rank by my own personal witness and statistical evidence. I'll start with the Lead Guards:
1. Magic Johnson
2. Isaiah Thomas
3. Dennis Johnson
4. Jason Kidd
5. John Stockton
Now the Off Guards (after MJ I must admit, I myself go back & forth in ranking the remaining four players at the two guard) :
1. Michael Jordan
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Dwyane Wade
4. Clyde Drexler
5. George Gervin (I admit the "Iceman" didn't play a lick of defense, but he was more efficient than any of the big-time scoring off guards, Jordan included.
A little insight on all of my picks: I am basing my picks on accomplishments/ accolades plus performance. This doesn't necessarily mean that I feel that a said player is better/ has more impact than the next, but that the higher ranking player has accomplished more than the lower ranked player in their storied career at the said position. For instance, if I went strictly on scoring ability here Gervin would be second only to Michael Jordan. I'm going with the more accomplished player in my rankings, not NECESSARILY the best player. I hope this gives clarity to my rankings.
Small Forwards:
1. Larry Bird
2. Lebron James
3. Julius Erving
4. Scottie Pippen
5. Rick Barry
Big Forwards:
1. Tim Duncan
2. Kevin Garnett
3. Kevin McHale (although if I'm selecting an All-NBA Team, McHale is my first choice at big forward)
4. Karl Malone
5. Charles Barkley
Center:
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2. Shaquille O'neal
3. Hakeem Olajuwon
4. Moses Malone
5. David Robinson
And now (drum roll) , this is my very own "All-Time All-NBA Team" - these are the players I'd select if I had my choice of any player (s) in NBA history to start a team:
PG Magic Johnson
SG Michael Jordan
SF Larry Bird
BF Kevin McHale
C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
My choice of McHale you might ask? Kevin McHale nightly guarded the opposing teams best offensive (front court from small forward to center) player, WHILE BEING GUARDED BY THE OPPOSING TEAM'S BEST DEFENSIVE (front court) PLAYER, he had great range defensively (I honestly think that only Kevin Garnett has/ had better range on the defensive end at the big forward position) and was unstoppable in the low post, he was the most efficient big-time scoring big forward of all-time at .554% shooting from the field.
