I'd suggest that the black beret be retired entirely. Not just for utility uniforms but for the service and dress uniforms as well. It seems to me that this was not a measure to instill pride in being a Soldier but to make us more like our UN and NATO allies. Our political climate continues to drift towards Europeanization and its effect is apparent even in the ranks (hence the ugly beret). Lets take a few steps back and do something that is REALLY "distinctly American" and be DIFFERENT (gee what a concept). The garrison cap and service cap (saucer cap) look very smart and professional with our Class A and Class B uniforms (don't even get me started on the retardedness of the beret with Dress Blues ala ASU) and we should not be afraid to return to that era. These pieces of headgear seem to work just fine for ALL our sister services.
