Singaporean Pianist Wang Congyu was born in year 1992. He started learning the piano at the age of three. Sylvia Ng, an American pianist, discovered his talents and decided to take him as student. Barely 16, Congyu was accepted with a scholarship to study at the prestigious Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris "Alfred Cortot", where he studied with prominent pianists Jean-Marc Luisada, and Odile Catelin-Delangle. He later enrolled in the Schola Cantorum to study with Gabriel Tacchino, the only student of Francis Poulenc. He also had advanced piano studies with pianists Aquiles Delle-Vigne, Sergio Perticaroli and Igor Lazko. In year 2010, he was awarded the Diplom d'Execution at the school of Cortot. At age 18, Congyu received top prizes in several piano competitions, which opened many doors to piano concerts and festivals. Most recently he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Berlin International Piano Competition for young pianist. He took top prizes in Bordeaux, Merignac, Paris and several others. At the Chopin International Piano Competition for young pianists in Slovenia, Congyu was awarded 6th Prize. This led to Francois Weigel, a member of the jury who thought Congyu should have won, resigning from the jury in protest.
The award winning pianist has performed in France, England, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and has played at least 400 solo piano recitals up to date. His vast repertoire includes 30 Piano Concertos and complete works of Chopin and Poulenc. Many pianists have described him as a pianist with an unimaginable artistic temperament and hypersensitivity in execution.
