Welcome to Communication ID working in liaison with the Victoria and Albert museum. This is also known as the V&A. The V&A houses a collection of artefacts from historical through to contemporary times that people can come and observe.
CID will be providing BSL interpreted access to 5 events in the upcoming months.
Now before I go into the details of these. I would like to make you aware of some general information relating to the V&A.
They organise free guided tours on a monthly basis. This takes place with BSL interpreted provision, on the first Thursday of every month at 1pm. The meeting place for these is at the Grand Entrance.
Now back to our events!
The first of which shall be taking place on the 18th September from 7pm to 8pm in the lecture theatre. The topic is In conversation. For this two people will discuss the theme of contemporary ceramics. This discussion will be between Edmund De Waal and Michelle Ogundehin. Edmund himself is a leading potter and Michelle is a design writer and they have in depth discussion around contemporary ceramics.
The second event takes place on 23rd October from 7pm to 8pm in the lecture theatre. The person coming to talk at this event is Lulu Guinness. Her collections of bag designs are displayed in many museums including the V&A. Her work has been described as tomorrows treasures. Lulu will discuss all things involved within her work.
The third event takes place on 1st November with events commencing from 11.30am until 12.15pm.
Just to let you know that this is a family event called Majestic Maharajahs Festival.
There will be a variety of events occurring throughout the day.
The 11.30am event is called The Ocean of the streams stories. Another event on this day starts at 2pm until 3pm called Epi Indian Adventures.
The location of these events is yet to be confirmed so please check the V&A website closer to the time.
Our fourth event The Maharaja Tour occurs on the 2nd December from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the afternoon meeting at the Grand Entrance. This is a special event.
A well known comedian, Jeff Mirza, who will introduce the exhibition and discuss its content. Also there will be some Indian food provide some nibbles for you to try on the day.
Our last event takes place on the 4th December from 2pm to 4pm taking place in the Art Studio.
This event is titled The Tristan Quilt the French title of this work is La Maison de Boutis.
The Tristan Quilt was made in the 1400s and the method of making this involves taking linen fabric padded with cotton wadding. And has designs using brown and white thread.
This technique is known as Boutis and is still a continued practice occurring in France today mainly with the Provence region. A group of French women display a live exhibition of this technique repeating the styles used for the quilt itself.
Leading this group will be Francine Nicolle. The group themselves are from the Languedoc Roussillon. The quilt itself took over 6,000 hours to make and will be on display in the Art studio. Discussions will focus on the historical and current techniques and compare these. Also you can try your hand on the techniques, guided by Francine.
