As one of the most sought-after color specialists in the city of Chicago, colorist John Blue has been painting the town red (blonde and brunette, too!) for over twelve years. His approach to color is unique: enhance what you were born with, factoring in your skin and eye color, natural texture and tonality: "You don't want to necessarily fight what mother nature has given you, but freshen it up to keep your look current and more youthful." His career began at the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, followed by vigorous advanced training at Van Michael Salons in Atlanta. He joined TRIO Salon in 2002 as a Color Educator and Color Department Head, advancing his career further in 2004 as an Aveda Global Hair Color Educator.

Outside the salon, Blue and his work have been featured on TLC's "A Makeover Story," WGN news, and in a variety of publications, including ELLE, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, New York Magazine, and on the cover of URB magazine. Celebrity clients include Chicago recording artist Kid Sister and Miss Illinois 2011 Whitney Thorpe-Klinsky, whose look is one in a long line of collaborations with stylist Reese Travis. In his spare time, Blue is a recording artist himself, with multiple albums on iTunes, a number one video on the MTV/Logo Network and a feature in the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival debuted documentary, Pick Up The Mic.
