    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

Darsa was a small label out of Roswell,NM owned by Jimmy Blakley. I don't think there was anyone but Bob Buster on both sides. He probably was backed by the Blakley family, Cliff on lead guitar! I'm not an expert but I'm told that I own the very recorder this was cut on...LOL!

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

The musicians on this recording are 'really fine'. I wonder how many had played with the 'Planets' during their heyday? I'd also like to know if Debbie Blakley is in this vidio and if she is the daughter of the late Jimmy Blakley,Sr of the Palm Room fame?

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

Virgil Johnson although the oldest had a rather youthful voice.......very nice. I think I read where he was a teacher at a high school in Odessa & he formed the group with some of his students. They would have had more hits except they came along at the 'end of the doo woop era, I'd say. I'm sort...

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

This is a fine piece obviously in A-minor. Incidently is the Michael Ballew from the Amrillo area that once recorded in Clovis & played with Gary Swafford & Gary Thurlow & Lucky Floyd? If so, please write me at: countryguitar1@gmail.com.

    Recorded: 8/6/1959

I hear a little 'Mickey Gilley' in his voice here. I didn't know that Hank Williams also sung this song. I'm beginning to think Fred Rose must have wrote it ?

Rockabilly Rocker FLAMING EMBERS "Gone Gone Gone"

Rockin Sixties(?) Rockabilly FLAMING EMBERS "Gone Gone Gone"

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

Pretty cool stuff, perhaps recorded too late for the 'top forty' but I'd certainly play it on a

Oldies show (if I had one)! Has a lead that sounds almost like Mitch Ryder of the later sixties, but this was probably recorded much earlier.

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

I got this record in my collection also. I though perhaps this was the original version of 'Scotch & Soda' but perhaps not? I personally don't hear 'rockabilly' in this record, it more like nightclub jazz.

    Destiny's Child - Emotions

Destiny`s child emotions from me. I'm 15 yr... i tried to sing it :D

    Hope you like it :D

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

The singer of this song has a lot of note and tone control. It sounds as though she needs a better microphone, as some 'highs' seem to be missing. This creates a muffled sound to the voice, while in full range it would be great ! It also sounds as if the guitarist used the incorrect diminish ch...

Is this the same Clyde Stacy that recorded 'Hoy Hoy' and Baby Shame? If so, I think

he(you) once lived in Lubbock,TX. At least the late Bill Griggs included him/you in one of his booklets about Lubbock-Amarillo music! I think he also stated that Stacy had moved back to Oklahoma after only a ...

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

Well, you do a fine job of copying the Hendrix style, I'd say. I don't know enough to say anymore. But I was actually playing guitar in rock bands when Hendrix and a few others revolutionized guitar playing. A lot of the young kids around the Lubbock-Amarillo area caught on to this new music, but...

The Newbeats - Bread and Butter (1964)

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

A lot of 'queer' comments are being posted about the high singer. Remember, this was recorded in the days when falsetto singing was still 'in'. Guys like Del Shannon and Orbison were reaching those 'high notes' in songs like Runnaway & Blue Angel and later Frankie Vallie did the same thing. So, ...

Bob Montgomery - Taste of the blues

A Buddy Holly related artist. Buddy and Bob recorded severals songs together in the early days.

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

Well I think I had heard of Bob Montgomery the writer and producer but.....I didn't know he could sing also! Very good... as he certainly beats a lot of the early recording artist of the same era. Congrats from an old Lubbock area musician-singer. Rockin Robin Brown

Ray Ruff - A fool again - Buddy Holly

Ray sounds alot like Buddy on this one.

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

It was most probably recorded in the same studio where Holly cut his earlier and best hits, Clovis,NM. It's been stated often that Ray Ruff couldn't sing, but actually his voice was about as good as the average recording artist of his era...thumbs up!

    Chuck Willis - Don't Deceive Me ~ Blues 1953

    Great classic

    col1rbtx col1rbtx commented:

has a feel about it that is seldom duplicated today.
