Clean coal releases radionucleides into the atmospehere and heavy metals like DDT. Wheres the clean in that? And mountain top removal mining isnt "clean." Or do you not need clean water either? Do some homework, climb a mountain, breathe some air. Energy policy has nothing to do with reality in my opinion, but sure, we cant instantly do away with coal, but when that's our collective goal- to replace burning coal as fast as possible with a sustainable resource like wind and solar and whatever the next great invention is- thats a reasonable goal. Coal, would you eat it? Wind and sunlight I already use everyday.

tfoog:

We did have a conversation that I have thought about numerous times since our talk in Denver. For those who have no idea what we are talking about, in our conversation (and correct me if I'm wrong here tfoog) he wants to do away with any from of electricity production.

In his defense, while I am fairly well versed in arguments for and against the use of fossil fuels to produce baseload power, I was amazed at tfoog's conviction to do away with ALL forms of electricity production including renewables.

Perhaps we need to come back out to Denver and shoot a video with me, tfoog, and nanofilm who also has commented on our videos....clearly from the renewables point of view.

We are not against airing any point of view. But in tfoog's case, it was a point of view that I had never ever considered. Not once!

Steve, I feel like you've sold yourself out. I don't want to let you off the hook here. We had a good talk, and I really felt like you understood the concerns about the dangers of "clean" coal. You need to stand up for what you believe. I know you care about the environment. Don't sell it out. Coal is killing us all. That's the truth. You can't bury it in the ground. Everyone with a brain knows that.

nanofilm:

I think all people we talk to are very well versed on many aspects of energy policy. We talk to anyone who wants to give us 5 minutes of their time. In the last day we talked to Lynn Swann (former candidate or Governor of Pa) and Senator Trent Lott, as well as many delegates in St Paul. We will post as many of those conversations as we can, but we always are anxious to talk to anyone with an opinion on energy policy.

I wonder-- do the people you interviewed know that burning coal is the single largest cause of global warming? Do they know that science has concluded that global warming (caused largely by burning coal) is the greatest threat to the survival of civilization and life on earth? Do they know that we already have cleaner, safer ways to make electricity right now (wind, solar, geothermal)? Have they considered the short-sighted insanity of continuing to use our atmosphere -- the air that we breathe-- as a sewer for the toxic mercury, sulphur and other poisons emitted from burning coal. If they understood these things, I think they would choose to make their living in other ways.

Steve, where's your interview with me? I thought we had a good conversation about how clean coal is a terrible idea. Don't leave it out just because it's not good PR. It's important to the environment that people are not lied to by massive carbon-releasing industries...
