The early July riots in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang province in China's Far West, opposing turcophone Uighurs and Han Chinese, have been spun by Beijing as yet another "foreign interference" conspiracy organized by the Uighur diaspora in exile.

Pepe Escobar argues it's more complicated than that. All the trouble stems from the official Chinese policy of population transfer - enticing millions of Han Chinese to move to the Far West where they find limitless opportunities not available to the local population. And then there's the key strategic importance of Xinjiang province - immensely rich in natural resources.

China's spin plus heavy handed repression has been met by thundering silence all across the "international community". What a difference from the recent turmoil in Iran.

No one can run a state when it has been occupied, dismembered and the resulting open air prison is blockades, raided and attacked. Israel makes sure Gaza & the West Bank stay that way. Despite all the obstacles, however, Palestinians mange to keep hospitals, schools, and administration going. The Zionist apartheid state will NEVER crush the Palestinians, not even with the aid of Israel's imperialist master, the USA - which itself in in slow meltdown. The Taliban has nothing to do with Iran.

8 years on, NATO has not defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan. It's another Vietnam.

Israel is done: first, the murderous regime has been exposed for all to see; second, as USA sinks into it's economic mire, and possibly splinters USSR-like, aid for Israel will dry up.

There are discussing sharia courts in Bahrain, which is majority Shia and so Shia customs are reflected in sharia. Anything that restricts the civil rights of women or anyone is something to do with me. It concerns everyone. Civil rights law should apply equally to all, there should not be separate laws for different religions.
