Peter Sellers was a genius as the bumbling moustached karate chopping idiot. Brilliant. You cannot beat the slapstick in the pink panther films thanks to Sellers/Edwards. I with many people think Steve Martin should never have cashed in playing Clouseau because he does not do the part justice but I also have to blame bad writing and directing. These pp remakes are an embarassment to the series to say the least. There will only ever be one original bumbling moustached idiot and that is Peter Sellers as the incomparable Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The case is solv-ed.
