This is John Elwes singing Dario, not Cantor. Nice to hear from this recording. I think the libretto of this opera would really work on stage !

Well, I love Invernizzi, but this aria (for la Cavalieri) is a bit above her reach (the high notes, the coloratura).

Actually, the incipit of this aria is "Miseri sventurati". There's a mistake in the booklet and in your spelling. But the aria and the singing are gorgeous, Gauvin is brave enough to transcend Curtis' rather dull direction. This should be more "sensitivo" ! But she's one of the very few baroque s...

I can tell for sure that this part was actually written for one of the most popular female sopranos in Vienna during 1700-1710 : Kunigunda Sutter. Some castratos used to sing (secondary) female parts as well during the 1710s or so in Vienna, but it was probably motivated by the dispon...

Il est extrêmement peu probable que cette cantate ait été écrite pour la Bordoni qui n'avait pas du tout la voix si aiguë. Le castrat Giovanni Bindi est un candidat plus plausible.

I think this would rather be a recording of the second version of Bononcini's Astarto, performed in London (1720). It is much more consistent with the cast which included the singers of Haendel's 2nd version of Radamisto : sopranos Galerati, Durastanti and Salvai, castratos Berselli and Senesino,...

Are you sure this was for Polzelli ? Actually I'm pretty sure it was intended for Barbara Sassi-Nencini (wife of the tenor Nencini). And the coloratura and ambitus displayed here would probably have been out of reach for the poor-skilled Polzelli.

Opprimete i contumaci;
son gli sdegni allor permessi:
ma infierir contro gli oppressi!
Questo è un barbaro piacer.
Non v'è trace in mezzo a' traci
sì crudel, che non risparmi
quel meschin che getta l'armi,
che si rende prigionier.

Merci pour la partition ! Je trouve cet air et cette interprétation absolument splendides, il faut jouer et enregistrer davantage d'opéras hambourgeois.
