I don't think this is too fast at all. Check out the John Eliot Gardiner recording from 1990. Too slow and it would sound ponderous.

I bought this CD in the mid-90s. This may be the best recording of any harpsichord music by anyone, both for the quality of the performance and for the recording itself, which manages to capture the sound of a harpsichord more accurately than anything else I've heard.

@rookieninetynine I think this is just a manner of speaking, in that many monarchs goaded the popes into elevating someone to the cardinalate. In France, Richelieu, Mazarin, Dubois, and Fleury all became cardinals by this method.

A couple people have posted that the video is supporting "Bloody Mary." He is speaking about Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland. "Bloody Mary" refers to Mary Tudor, or Mary I of England (Mary Stuart's first cousin, once removed), who was already dead at the time of the events in this video.

The harpsichord provides more clarity than the piano in this kind of contrapuntal texture. Because of the plucking action, the attack of the tone is sharper and the overtone series is different than on a piano. The sound is brighter and clearer. This can sound really muddled on a piano.
