I'm just an ordinary person trying to make a point. :(
Basically, I am going to break down some of the things I've heard people say to dismiss the fact that Goku hasn't been well cast. Goku should have been Asian and obviously not any Asian person but someone who suits the part ENTIRELY. And at least if he was to be Caucasian, in the very least it should have been by someone much, much better. I, unlike others before me, am not concerned really with Piccolo being not green enough and Bulma's blue hair and the pointless crap others have been focused on. It would be nice if Goku had a tail and turned into an oozaru...but I can live with that not being in it.
I'm more focused on quality of the actors. And dedication to the actual story/plot/theme. I'm sure there is a lot of untapped talent right here (I mean there are Asians in U.S. and Canada...why go to China and Korea for all of them??) just waiting for a chance like this. I think DB should use fresh faces, much like Harry Potter did, so that you could really feel the actors as the characters themselves. Look at James Marsters for example...if you are a Buffy Fan you probably wouldn't be able to see him as Piccolo entirely. That being said, Justin Chatwin, though he is a fresh face, in my honest opinion sucks, :( I mean maybe he would make a great star of another movie...but I just don't see Goku in him at all. If people have to force comparison pics to convince 1000s of fans that he deserves the role, that is saying something. The choices made in regards to casting(AND ROSHI'S APPEARANCE? NO KRILLIN??)reflect a movie that is being made wrecklessly, without care and without the thoughts of fans all over the world in mind.
Before bashing this, try watching all my clips entirely.
I understand that Fox IS making this movie, and I am humble with the fact that what's done is done. However, I am uncomfortable with the level of IGNORANCE people have in regards to this topic and are making light of something some take seriously. I am not Asian, but I respect and understand what is happening in Hollywood in regards to Asians AND other minorities (women, gays, Blacks, Hispanics, religious etc.). I am just focusing on one branch of the tree.
Note this is MY view and perspective on this issue. Feel free to disagree all you want, but that hardly means you should personally insult those who feel this way about this movie as OUR reasons are legitimate and OUR opinions are JUST AS entitled as yours.
