About Classic Banjo Rob MacKillop
The 'classic' banjo refers to the style of playing and repertoire in fashion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Players use a guitar-like technique on gut (often nylon today) strings. This is the pre-jazz era of Scott Joplin's early ragtime, but there is also a European influence as well. Some refer to it as the Parlor banjo.
