"The game of Golf is a long-standing symbol of status, white privilege, and the old boy network. By encouraging the growth of this underground sport, we subvert this dominant paradigm and provide fun and sport regardless of players' socioeconomic status, sexual preference, gender or absence thereof, nationality, religion, dress, or lifestyle."

I got into golf around the fifth grade, and loved to strike the ball. I started by hitting old tennis balls with a set of clubs given to me by our neighbor and soon I graduated to golf balls I fished out of water hazards and filched from the local driving range. I got a lot of my swing from watching the PGA guys on cable, and especially loved to hit the driver. My first formal lessons saw me knocking golf balls a good five to seven yards further than the rest of my classmates. Save for some issues with my grip and my short game, I was good to go. Or at least so I thought.

The problem came when my reactive and hypercompetitive father got a little too far along on his trip (be the perfect son AND a scratch golfer), and by age 13 or so, I was over it -- perfectly fine with letting my clubs rot in the garage. Dad was not happy about this, but I couldn't have cared less.

A few years later, during the summer following my Junior year in high school, a friend of mine and I went out pranking at the local Country Club. This is where I was first introduced to the art and science of playing the game of Golf with a canned air signal horn. When the air can finally ran out that day (the horn was an el cheapo model), we switched to screaming "FORE!!" at the top of our lungs.

Needless to say, it was the best time I'd had on a golf course in years. I was hooked, and am so for life.

Get ready golf world. We're here, we've got airhorns (and perhaps a good camera) and we're ready for some good, (hopefully) clean fun.
