I began to play when I was 10 years old in Cleveland. I started out playing bigband show tunes on a tenor. In the 1960's I was taught clawhammer style from my brother Dave. At that time, in Ohio, more hammering on, pulling off, and slides were used. Drop thumb was not used all that often. I still play that way.
