About this user
Outgoing, friendly guy who really enjoys meeting or conversing with others who share similar interests, hobbies and/or experiences.
My big interests are:
ORGANS:
Both Liturgical and Theater. I'm a member of ATOS and the regional chapter in Eastern Massachusetts.
I started playing the piano "by ear" around age 5 or 6 and when i was13, my folks bought a Wurlitzer 4602. This was the last of the ES Reed organs, and it's built like a tank.
I'm in the process of replacing most resistors and capacitors as well as making mods to add some features. I'm also working on a home-built tone cabinet with rotating speakers. I hope the Wurli will be closed-up and complete in the next three months.
Influences included Ken Griffin (of course) and the pipe organ players from both past and present. I find Mark Herman to be rather amazing, but there are others.
AVIATION:
My head has been looking-up since I started walking. By age 8, I could name every light plane overhead, right down to the -dash number of the make/model.
I started flying lessons at age 15 in a Taylorcraft on floats, transitioned to a Cherokee 140, and later bought a PA-22 TriPacer in need of everything. After several years of work (and money) I was rewarded when EAA invited us up for an air-to-air photo shoot at Oshkosh '95.
Due to a problem with the last few batches of Stitts PolyFiber Clear Coat (PT100... no longer made) the ship looks horrible and I'm going to remove the fabric and do it all over again. Fifteen years is not acceptable service life!
MOVIES:
My tastes are varied, from "Ordinary People" to "Jackass". TV Programs I currently watch include "Weeds", "Dexter" and "U.S. of Tara" on SHO. Network shows include "Two and a Half Men", "American Idol", "Dateline NBC" and "Real Time with Bill Maher".
Of course as a kid, I waited each week for "Whirlybirds" and "Sky King". Those two programs did more to promote General Aviation than any other television show of the era.
LIFE:
Due to double back injuries and surgery, I'm not working full time, but of course that means I don't have the disposable income like I used to. I've missed Oshkosh "AirVenture" for the last few seasons, but hopefully next summer will find me there.
I welcome contact from anyone sharing my interests.
