the initial Tom Baker seen was from an episode during the era in which Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide..) was script editor, hence the comedy

For what it's worth, in the audio Dr Who story "Slipback" it was said that the Dr's companion (in that case Peri) couldn't pronounce the Dr's real name; hence the "Doctor" title.

have you seen the 3rd dr's one? It's virtually identical except for the colour scheme and rubber head. My criticism of both these screwdrivers is the sound effects; they're 'new series' sounds, not the 'real' sounds from the 1970s
