This is very early, possible the first BBC performance for them. Pete is still in the group. You can hear some of his poor overplaying beginning just after the one minute point. He had a tendency to try and hog the spotlight, not the simple solid back beat you want in a good drummer.

I guess you have to like the style, but I do wish the Beatles had recorded a full album of rockabilly and country rock standards in a proper studio setting, circa early 1963..

The simulated fake stereo version of this song from the doulble Buddy Holly "a rock and roll collection" best of LP circa 1973 is the only time that ill advised procedure actually sounds pretty cool.

This is great. An interesting reversal, where Chris actually makes the song more accessible by toning down the quirkiness of the vocal, something that is usually a feature of his vocal style.

I really dig Chris Stamey. He has a pretty unique vocal style that is slightly smart alecky and sincere at the same time. Very arresting and eternally youthful, he manages to set a nostalgic vibe. A real original.

It's pretty widely known that Avril contributes little to her songs. They are written by a committee of writer/producers. Her name is affixed for credibility purposes
