This little scene shows why this was one of the best shows ever. Each child had his or own distinct personality. Lots of love in the family, but lots of strongly held -- and different -- beliefs.

I think this is great. Shows how terribly overdue updates are on the show.

Loved the grand tour of the seedy bar district.

Loved the entrance of the suspicious Katherine. I'm not sure who the young woman was who ordered the club soda. Liked the use of the Fleetwood Mac song.

Bill Bell knew how to pace a show. The long scene with Traci and John, with great dialogue, followed by the short teaser with Brad and Lauren. Today, we would have been whisked through two or three times as many scenes, with much less said.

Thank you for sharing this. By now, most of the other soaps started doing poor-ass jobs of copying the General Hospital style of show. Y&R stayed with classic storytelling and was rewarded. ... None of this claptrap like we have today.

That goodbye scene is one of the best in TV history. Some parts of North & South were rather cheesy, but the Orry/George part was terrific.

@KentuckRoad -- Listen to yourself here. "... And even allowed them to grow a garden." SERIOUSLY? ALLOWED THEM TO GROW A GARDEN? Tell me, exactly how would you feel if someone ALLOWED YOU TO GROW A GARDEN? Would that endear them to you? Would you think it a wonderul way to live?

Great miniseries. Flawed, but great. Also, I always want to slap that stupid smile off Ashton's face (and I'm a Southerner). Thanks for posting this!

I remembered this promo from way back when ... good to see it again.

That was such a wonderful TV show. And it wasn't quite so warm and fuzzy as people like to remember. While there was definitely a strong family core we're all attracted to, the show very ably tackled the issues of the day -- the horrible Depression, the storm clouds of WWII, racism, attitudes abo...

I tear up anytime I see Ellen Corby or Will Geer -- they remind me so much of my grandparents.

OMG. Just found this. What a great version of this song. It has a bit of a Jefferson Airplane touch to it that I like.

This show was the Dynasty of the Westerns. (I mean that in a good way).

I think we're due a revival of the NBC Sunday Night Mystery movie! Brilliant concept. And the theme was just terrific.

WHERE did you get some of those AW clips? I thought they had all been lost pre-1979.

I really liked the entire "Erica in NYC" years. You had the rest of the storylines in PV, but then you had Erica and her goings-on in NYC. It provided a nice small-town / big city contrast.

Taylor is enough to drive a saint to drink, he's got the pizazz and salesmanship down in this scene!

I was a teenager when this came out, and it spurred a lifelong interest in all things Roman Empire. The theme still gives me chills.

I miss the era of the miniseries.

@YoungandRestlessboy I totally agree. It's almost like two different actresses played her. BD was so understated -- and so much more effective -- the first time out. She ended up a garish cartoon.

@chthonic19 I agree. But these were the last years we were allowed a little genuine corniness. I miss it.

It's hard to think of a better song or video that captures the frantic exuberance of youth -- at least back in the '80s. I was a freshman in college when this came out and we totally loved this.

On an album with so many great songs, this one got a bit overshadowed. It's terrific. (But then I liked every single song from Private Dancer).

OK ... here's my idea to promote world peace. Make enemies execute this dance PRECISELY together before they can leave negotiations. By the time they perfect it, they'll be too happy and tired to fight anymore.

I really when the miniseries reigned. These were HUGE, MUST-SEE events. Big casts. Sweep and scope. No one can pull something like this off anymore.

I was a kid when this show was fresh in prime time. When this theme was on (I think Sunday evenings), I was practically electrified. It filled me with excitement, dread and fascination at the same time. I sat in front of the TV, demanded the rest of the family SHUT UP and let this romping suite s...

@Chicken1397 I lived in that time for my teens and 20s; and yes, it was pretty damn fun. That said, the haze of nostalgia and passed time makes it more fun than it really was. In the '70s and '80s, I kept wishing it was like the '50s and '60s.

This is incredible. THIS IS HOW TO DO A COVER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. Honor the original but make it your own.

That was great. I like them rushing the Clemson tiger at the end. Instinctively, all over the world, everyone knows a Clemson tiger must be destroyed! LOL. Thanks for sharing that. I bet your time in China was quite the experience.

@wolfmantip I know exactly what you mean. A pretty woman isn't always sexy. And a sexy woman isn't always pretty.

This was the best opening for ATWT, I think, though I also liked a couple of the others. I liked many of the rich, orchestral sounds of soaps' opening themes developed in the '70s.
