@ct1762 You are absolutely correct...I should have put back the air silencer....with it off it throws the metering off. I have to post #5, which shows the proper way to set the idle on this motor, I have been doing it all wrong for 19 years..

I stand corrected, the proper way to adjust idle in the 86/87 loopers is by way of the timing...the butterflies are supposed to be completely closed so the Idle Air Bleeds can do their job. Idles MUCH better now.

@jigibao yes actually was indeed running on all cylinders, once started, but if you refer to video 4 you'll see that indeed I was running lean on all cylinders and at least one carb was sucking air via a crack in the fuel manifold.

@nextgenerationmarine There are six carbs on this thing, each with three jets, none of which are adjustable. They are not like an automotive carb where you can adjust the idle mixture. You can only adjust the idle speed, by wy of allowing more air through the throats.

@IgorSallesBotti if you got to video number four there were two things wrong, 1) I used a nylon washer under the float seat, which allowed less fuel in the bowl 2) there was a crack in the fuel manifold allowing air to come into one of the carbs.

The idle speed should be around 650 +- 50 rpm in forward gear in the water.
Adjusting the idle speed this way has made a world of difference, the engine is running richer (may adjust idle air bleeds) and cold starts in 2-3 cranks.
It has never cold started this well in the 19 years I've owned ...

It appears I have been adjusting the idle speed all wrong, by using the Idle STOP screw...by doing it that way I was cracking the butterflies slightly and effectively bypassing the idle air bleeds and running too lea...

@wetbootsmoke Took it out this past weekend...ur right the engine wouldn't idle in the ocean set at the 1000rpm. Had to adjust the rpm out on the water to about 1200, on land that equated to something like 1400+...What a differnece...some threads speak of drilling the Idle Exhaust Relief holes la...
