Here are some numbers: 6/9 of the last Iowa caucus winners won the GOP nomination, while 3/9 didn't. That's more accurate than Maddow but still inaccurate because it includes unopposed victories. If you only count opposed victories, 3/6 who won Iowa won the nomination while 3/6 didn't.
