Program Description:
Grieving the loss of a loved one is a journey which starts before they die and does not end 1 or 2 years after they die. It is a normal, complex, unique part of life which can lead to personal growth and a more resilient survivor. Still, many people struggle with mood, doubts, regrets, and function of life after the loss of a loved one. We will discuss these issues together and help people understand how the difficult journey of grief can be a good one.
Program Presenter: Clay M. Anderson, MD, FACP, is an associate professor of clinical medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and is Director of the Missouri Palliative Care Program. He is also has a faculty appointment in the MU Center for Health Ethics as a clinical ethicist and in the Sinclair School of Nursing as a teacher and research collaborator and is a part-time senior medical director for Hospice Compassus, Inc. — Central Missouri Office. He is board-certified in palliative care, medical oncology, and internal medicine, and leads his team in caring for people and families living with life limiting illness of many kinds.
He teaches and generates original work for the MU School of Medicine, University of Missouri Health Care, and beyond in the areas of end of life care, hospice and palliative care, pain management, palliative/supportive oncology, patient-physician communication, narrative medicine, and spirituality and health care. His education includes an undergraduate degree from MU, an MD degree from Stanford University, and postgraduate training from University of Colorado in Denver and University of Texas - M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
He has been on the faculty in the School of Medicine since 1997. He lives in Columbia with his wife Michelle and their three children and enjoys reading, fly fishing, duck hunting, camping, hiking, cooking, wine tasting, and playing games with his family. He is active in his church home in Columbia, Calvary Episcopal Church.

Scott Perkins, LCSW, earned his MSW, with a concentration in Policy, Planning and Administration, from the University of Missouri - Columbia. He is certified as a Crisis Worker from the American Association of Suicidology and is a certified instructor of several suicide prevention programs. In his role as Project Director at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, he oversees the implementation of the Missouri Youth Suicide Prevention Project.

Program Presenter: Lynn Stark, APRN, MSN, received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Ball State University and her masters degree in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing from Indiana University. She has 20 years of experience providing group and individual therapy to adults and adolescents with eating disorders and other psychiatric illnesses. In addition to coordinating the opening and development of several eating disorder centers, Lynn has lectured to area physicians, schools, and community groups on the topic of eating disorders. As an advanced practice nurse, she has a thorough understanding of the medical complications associated with eating disorders. At McCallum Place, Lynn works with individuals and family members to help them understand the recovery process and physical changes associated with refeeding.

Tom Minogue, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist in a 300-member group practice, as well as a clinical assistant professor on the medical school faculty at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to his residency in psychiatry, he was a rural family practitioner, surgeon, and ER doctor. He lectures widely, has numerous TV and radio appearances to his credit, and has taught and consulted administratively both in the U.S. and throughout the Caribbean.
