@iubanne The same suspect here. :) Rysanek sounds more mezzo than her. Heard a recording of Janacek's "Kata Kabanova" with her in an alto part of Kabanicha - there's no hint for the mezzo sound from her.

Fiorenza Cossotto (71 years old) - Stride la vampa - Il Trovatore (1)
Tokyo 2007
フィオレンツァ・コッソット トロヴァトーレ
I love her so much and consider her to be the best Italian mezzo in dramatic repertoire in the whole 20-th century, but she should have stopped appearing on stages in the late 90-s.... It does injustice to her art during her prime years...

@natalyamark Unfortunately not. You can hear there Es together with E (accidently touched I suppose), which should be not there. I own this recording and there are a lot of dirty notes there.... It's a live recording of a not so technically successful concert....

Tamara Sinyavskaya sings Konchakovna from Borodin's "Prince Igor"
The great, wonderful Russian mezzo-soprano Tamara Sinyavskaya sings the beautiful Konchakovna's aria from Borodin's "Prince Igor" ("Князь Игорь" ).

Obraztsova is the peak of vulgarity, the absolute first prize in vulgarity contest on the opera scene. Sinyavskaya is much better, but still on the road up to the same peak. This performance is one of her successes, relatively.

just splendid! I should say I prefer her in dramatic soprano repertoire which to my mind suits better her voice, too high and bright for a mezzo. Nice trick with a laugh, added a slight demonic touch to the performance.

she is very expressive of course and also good looking, but my Lord, she is out of pitch with her awful vibrato and wobbling at times and it's proved by every recording of her.... how did she succeed with such a vocal technique?
