Carla Jenkins is an award winning singer, lyricist, actor and sculptor, who has been performing classical, pop, and musical theater roles since she was 14 years old. Her academic and professional education has given her both a breadth and depth in knowledge in poetry, music and performance. She was an early admission to the University of the Arts, (Phila., Pa), for her formal training in voice, music, dance & acting,-debuting the role, Maria, in the SOUND OF MUSIC. Jenkins continued her formal education at Franklin & Marshall College, (Lancaster, Pa), with courses in post-modern drama and directing with Gordon Wickstrom. At Millersville Univ., she studied music and applied arts and was the lead singer for the Millersville Jazz Band. To sharpen her acting skills, Carla studied privately with Louise Lasser in NYC, and Gary and Mary Smith, founders & directors of the successful Theater of the Seventh Sister in Lancaster, PA. To round out her artistic skill, Carla studied at Moore College of Art & Design, Phila., Pa.

Carla studied voice with the renowned Winnifred Dettore Swift, Paul Gavert, Harold Parker & Fred Waring. Carla studied Jazz Dance w/Phil Black in NYC, and Contemporary & Jazz Dance at Broadway Dance Center and Steps, also in NYC. She studied Ballet w/Monique Legare, Lisa Collins-Vidnovic, and Eva Szabo, Phila., Pa.

Jenkins earned her membership in ACTORS EQUITY during her perf. as a dancer/singer in a CT. prod. of SWEET CHARITY, directed by Chet Walker. Some of Carla's favorite performances in musical theater include: Tzeitel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF; Tuptim, THE KING AND I; Linda Lou, BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS; Ruth, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS; Irene Malloy, HELLO DOLLY; Pegeen Ryan, AUNTIE MAME, & Ensign Connie Walewska, SOUTH PACIFIC.

Carla was a featured soloist for WE THE PEOPLE 200 Celebration, Phila., Pa.; PENNSY POPS ORCHESTRA at the Keswick Theater; FRED WARING'S BLENDORS; THE MISS LOUISIANA USA PAGEANT; NATIONAL WELSH AMERICAN FOUNDATION; AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY TELETHON; TALENT WINNER AND 1st runner-up in the MISS PENNSYLVANIA PAGEANT.

The first CD Carla produced is entitled, GRASPING THE SERPENT, on which she is vocalist, lyricist, creative director and graphic artist. *Please see the "press" section below, for review by the late Walt Grealis, Publisher of RPM Magazine, about this CD.

Carla's latest accomplishment is working with Composer/ Master guitarist, Steve Giordano, writing lyrics to and marrying a New Vocal Styling to His Original Compositions-and their collaboration produced a new genre of music that is pure and clear, lyrical and complex in composition COMBINING BEAUTIFUL ROMANTIC BALLADS WITH BRAZILLIAN SAMBA AND BOSSA NOVA, having recently performed at the PSALM Salon in Phila., PA. and the Cheltenham Center of Arts, Cheltenham Pa.

Carla's other new project with Composer/Pianist, John (Jack) Ebbert, combines several Movements based upon a well-known Children's story, to which Carla is co-creating melodies, writing the lyrics, singing, and is responsible for the vocal arrangements. These Movements fuse an eclectic combination of orchestra, and piano (composed, played and arranged by Jack Ebbert), jazz, pop, and opera to make for an exciting and electrifying musical collaboration and composition!
