My name is Jason welsh I live in Jackson Michigan and work as a Digital Media Instructor at the Jackson Area Career Center. I teach how to produce visual media for Print / Photography / Film and Game Industries. Along with the Career Center, I also work as a part time Professor at the International Academy of Art and Technology in the game design department, and at Jackson Community College as an Adjunct Professor for Computer Information Systems (3D modeling and Animation). I hold a Masters Degree in Career and Technical Education along with a Bachelors in Computer Programming and a Occupational Certification in Visual Communications. My hobbies include multimedia artwork, computer programming and electronics. If you came into my presence you would probably notice that I have a real passion for Art and Technology but I also enjoy pondering on how we learn as humans. I own and operate a video training company that develops open source education videos for students who cannot afford specialized colleges in the video game industry. But still want to learn how to create game assets. We learn something new everyday, I just love sharing what I have learned with others. After my degree I fell in love with 3D design and Illustration. But not just the design part but the workflow that was needed to produce the designs. I then spent a very large chunk if time on mastering some very unique programs that dealt with 3D modeling and animation to incorporate my traditional drawing skills with that of 3D design. I quickly learned I was totally addicted and wanted to share what I learned with others for some odd reason. So off I went to make some video tutorials on how to do some of the crazy stuff. Sell videos you ask? Well yes and no. I still do sell custom video workshops to individuals and institutions but I went down the road of selling video tutorials via DVD and the internet and quickly lost the love for it. Money was good but it became a full time job and just like I found out before college with being a Tattoo artist if you do it for a living it seizes to be fun. Now I work at a College Teaching 3D design and Animation here in Jackson, Michigan and also at a Career and Technical Education facility doing about the same with high school junior and seniors. This does not feel like a job to me anymore so I really don't see any end in sight only growth in both my skills as an artist and those I train in what I have learned. On the left there is a link to houseoftutorials.com and also a link to my veoh channel. I released some of my best videos to the world free.

I figure why limit myself to Jackson Michigan ;)

Hi papertripping.

you can extrude along normals like that.

pres E-key to extrude than Esc-key.

Hey Jason!
I'm on Lesson 804- and am at the point of extruding multiple faces off the nose of the X-wing along Normals.
My blender on startup says it's Blender 2.6- although everything on the UI looks just like your 2.5 version on the videos- However the Edit Mode Tool Box on mine does not have 'Along normal' as a button under transformation- i have Push/Pull and Shrik/Flatten instead which arent the same as 'Along Normal' I've tried searching online through manuals and forums and havent been able to find how to extrude along Normals in Blender 2.6- Can you please help me out?

Thank you, Jason. You taught me in an hour what would have taken me a month to learn via Blender's "documentation."

I'm starting to feel less intimidated by Blender.

wow that is useful Teknis thanks. Weird thing is I don't remember seeing that option before. Maybe because the name really does not fit it to well with what it does.

"Merge Vertices" now there is a concept
TeknistProductions (3 weeks ago)
Awesome videos. BTW you can merge all of the vertices. Once you join the two objects go to Edit Mode select all (or just the area you want to apply the logic) and select Mesh-->Vertices-->Remove Doubles. Note: This will merge all selected vertices within a given threshold. By default it is .00010 You can see the threshold and change it on the left hand window at the bottom under Remove Doubles. I have learned a lot about 3D modeling from your videos THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
