About this user
Hello! I'm Rob the Narcoleptic Musician! Yup, true narcoleptic here. Got diagnosed in late 2010. Anyway, I am a true music addict! I love it all! It all started for me when I was about 6 or 7 and my sisters had been taking piano lessons for a while and I would sit at the top of the stairs and listen to them through the lesson. As time went on I eventually begged my parents to let me take piano lessons. It was difficult, but my teacher loved all three of us and she cut a deal with us so we could afford three 1-hour lessons per week. Eventually, going into high school my sisters dropped piano as they were busy, but I continued.
Then in fourth grade I picked up alto saxophone as part of the band program. I played alto for a while, but also found an interest in guitar in 6th grade. I switched to playing baritone saxophone in the band in 8th grade (and antagonized by my peers because I was a short kid and, thus, shorter than my instrument) because I liked playing bari sax way more.
Then as I entered high school guitar started to become a prime priority. I tossed around the idea of being a music major, but my family was very critical of me not doing it because of the difficulty in the industry so after an immensely overload of negative feedback I backed off the idea.
It wasn't long until I decided that I didn't care. I was gonna make it happen. I aspired to go to Berklee. I worked harder and harder and I learned more about different styles and exclusively progressive music and I listened to a lot more jazz. I also took the AP Music Theory course in my high school. It was pretty interesting for a while, but people were learning too slow. It wasn't that hard, was it? Anyway, when they were taking forever I decided to start doing research outside of school so I could learn more (this was good because I could then take naps during theory class). With the help of my guitar teacher that I picked up early 2010 I started to learn more complicated jazz theory. I'm a theory nut. I love it, it intrigues me, and I love analyzing stuff, but that being said I'm still a prog guy and I strictly a popular policy of "If sounds good, it doesn't matter what the theory is, it sounds good."
Let's see, what else about me should I proclaim on the internets for all buman heings to see? I'm weird! and I want to get a Masters in Music Therapy some day. I have a very passionate love for psychology and how people react subconsciously to situations.
