About this user
I have a strong interest in knowledge and evidence-based truth. I am an atheist and, as someone who was formerly religious for a very long time, I have relatively strong feelings about the role of religion in human society. I believe that religion is a human-made entity, that almost all religions in human history have many fundamental similarities in belief, function, and origin. As a former religious person, I am passionate about my belief that each individual would be much better off in their life if they recognized this life for what it is rather than for what they want it to be. However, I am not interested in proselytizing my views as religious people often do. Rather, I feel it is important to discuss facts, beliefs, and evidence in an open minded way in the hope that each person comes to the truth on their own.
I hope that, as we learn more and more about our surroundings through the scientific method, we humans can leave religion behind once and for all. I have hope that we as a species can strive to reach our potential, leaving behind such disasters as war, crime, government propaganda, and other manifestations of the desire for power over other humans.
I welcome civilized, logical, rational, and evidence-based debate about religion and its role in society. I have little tolerance for arguments based in emotion, fear, dogma, superstition, or ignorance.
