A born performer since the age of seven, Calvin has gained recognition as an influential vocalist throughout the East Coast and Midwest: Alabama, Georgia, Washington, DC, New York, and Michigan. Calvin moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 to pursue his undying love for music. In May 2005 and 2007, Calvin was invited to perform during the two-day Annual Sweet Auburn Festival in Atlanta, Ga. In March 2006, he graced the stage as the opening act for CeCe Penniston in Atlanta, GA, giving an awe-inspiring performance. He was selected as a finalist out of 500 contestants in the V-103 Pepsi Smash Showcase hosted by Tosha Love, earning him generous acclaims from the judges (Geffen Records/ Universal/ Island-Def Jam/Capitol). He was told, "Calvin you have the voice that transcends any genre". Calvin has also performed at venues such as, The Atrium in Atlanta, Ga., Georgia World Congress Center/ La Femme Productions "Get Your Shine On", Cobb Galleria's/ The Best of Georgia, Crowe's Nest in Atlanta, Ga; where he won the 2006 Adonis International Showcase, Apache Cafe, Justin's Showcase for Patchwerk / Sho' Nuff records, Café 290's "Who Got That Vibe! Showcase; where the owner, enjoyed him so much he has given Calvin an open door policy to return, and also Sugar Hill where he has made several appearances at the request of Patchwerk. He performed with Sammie and Rich Boy in Columbus, Ga. Fall concert and he was also honored to headline with Avant and Ginuwine at Tuskegee University Homecoming 2006. Since the release of his debut album CALVIN PAYNE "Better Man" (available at www.cdbaby.com/calvinpayne) November 2006, the world now has the chance to get a deeper look into the man behind the lyrics, the voice, and the music. While gaining momentum from his album, Calvin has been featured in S I R Magazines January 2007 issue and summer 2007 issue as an indie artist on the rise. He is currently featured on Patchwerk Recording Studio's Need... a Deal Unsigned Artist Compilation Cd, displaying his latest single "I Never". Calvin headlined at The Red Shoe, launching the second ever show date for One Night Only at the request of Linda Casey (Mother of Brian & Brandon of Jagged Edge) and at the request of 102.5 Radio station Calvin Performed at the 2007 Universoul Circus. Recently Calvin performed at The Southwest Music Festival sharing a stage with B5 and he was a featured artist at the Welcome to Hustleville Atlantis Showcase 2007. Currently Calvin is featured on www.pepsismash.com for Mic Pass Atlanta and www.caughtmagazine.com . Look for him on the CW television station this fall for Dig It or Dis It. Calvin has diligently trained his ear for pitch recognition, singing, and mastering intricate harmony arrangements. His musical influences include legends such as: Luther Vandross, Nat "King" Cole, Cole Porter, Donny Hathaway, Johnny Mathis, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Rachelle Ferrell, all of whom have had tremendous impact on his unique vocal styling, lyrical prowess, and eclectic approach to music.
