Los Angeles is home to 261 charters, with 211 of them located in LA Unified.
More 80,000 LAUSD students, or about 12% of the district's total, attend charters, and more than 10,000 students are waitlisted, hoping to get into a charter. These are the stories of those schools, students, parents, volunteers, teachers and leaders.
Parents from more than 100 schools rallied at Exposition Park on Feb. 4, 2012 to demand high-quality public schools in every community and fair funding and facilities for all public school students.
