Can I suggest you listening to Jane Morgan singing this song She was in "Kismet" on Broadway, I presume playing Marsinah, but having just watched Barbara Eden singing "Not Since Ninevah" (yes Jeannie), perhaps she actually played Lalume as she was a contralto.

I've wondered too about "Fascination" and other songs being half music and singing (is15310. Is it still part of the culture of "going down the Palais" where there was a chanteuse(is that spelled right?) fronting the dance band, or was it the limited play time on a 78 or the new 45 r.p.m. record...
