On August 7, 2006, our son, David Christopher Money, was killed in an auto accident when his van hydroplaned on a Columbus highway. Rather than being notified by authorities of his accident, his mom, Carmela, was told by a Hospitalchaplain over the phone that her only child was dead.
As a result of this traumatic event, Carmela set out to create a bill that would notify the next of kin immediately, making it possible for family members to be with their loved ones right away. I do not want others to have to experience the pain I have endured by not getting to be with David right away and I will never get that back.
After a year of hard work and dedication, Money-Burge Act was signed by Governor Strickland May 1, 2008, allowing emergency contact information to be readily available for law enforcement in the state of Ohio.
