Although sometimes Coltrane's stuff can sound like just random notes he is the king of improvisation he is just light years away of what was accepted during his time and he is sticking to the chart but hes just using extensions of the chord much higher such the 11th or 13th

Well, I gotta say, Coltrane doesn't exactly know how to improvise. He never sticks with the melody and that's why I don't really like his stuff.
