Manning the rails was a pain in the a^&, unless you could be at relaxed parade rest. Some of the canoe clubbers(academy dudes) trying to kiss their bosses butt made us stay at parade rest the entire time, until boats whistled moored. Great times. Go US NAVY.

Moreoff, that picture is not necessarily the obstruction the vessel hit. From some reports I have heard, the ship was further out when it hit the obstruction and the captain headed for shallower water. Incredibly, the loss of life could have been much greater than it was.
