Sorry, this is incorrect. Your eyes actually straighten to have more parallel lines of sight to see stereoscopic images side-by-side. Your eyes naturally want to focus on the same single point. Getting them NOT to cross is the hard thing.

@fixedgearforlife that is true about the UP being different, but i think he means non-UP accent (most of the population of MI is not in the UP). I live in Ann Arbor and this sounds pretty similar.
