Over 100,000 people converged on the streets of London on Saturday 20 June 2009 to remember the tens of thousands that perished in the Sri Lankan states final onslaught against the Tamil civilians and to call for the release of 300,000 that remain under threat of death, disappearance, rape and torture in government-run internment camps.
Protesters, carrying black flags and adorned in dark attire, marched to rouse the UK and international community into action over the following three demands: • Stop the disappearances, rapes and torture occurring daily in the internment camps and find all those who were unaccounted for. • Free people from the camps immediately so that they can return to their normal lives. • Bring the perpetrators of the genocide against the Tamils to justice.

Prime Minister, Do not repeat the United Nations dark failures by letting Rwanda happen again. We ask that you do not close your eyes to the terrors being committed by one of your allies but see what everyone sees, terrible crimes against innocent people. Do not let our Prime Minister in ten years visit the graves of Tamil Children, the same Tamil children who will be tortured to death unless you act now. Your words have given us hope; but words are not enough, show us your convictions by the actions you take. These disturbing images are from Vanni, made available after the massacre on 20th April 2009. This is from when the Government forces entered the safe zones.
Within hours, more than one thousand innocent civilians were killed, the majority of the bodies were not even taken to the makeshift hospital....Today, there is no makeshift hospital. Yesterday, Government forces destroyed the last remaining makeshift hospital with a cluster bomb...killing most of the medical staff including Dr Siva Manoharan. As we know, you were the first World leader to call for ceasefire on 14th January 09......since then, more than 6,000 civilians have died and tens of thousands seriously injured. Hundreds have had legs amputated without morphine and the necessary medical supplies.
If we only hear words from you now, the Sri Lankan Tamil generation will be wiped out. Maimed children will be exterminated behind the razor sharp wire of the camps, living briefly under the rule of the gun of Government forces, then die of starvation, disease or torture. They will also die like David, still hoping you will come and save them. Please do not abandon them like your predecessors abandoned others.
We, the Tamil Diaspora, along with fighters of justice like Rev. Jesse Jackson unanimously told the world our intention to find a political solution for lasting peace in Sri Lanka. Without wanting to cause disruption to our fellow countrymen, we have protested to bring an end to this crisis. More than 150,000 people, for the second time in the year, marched through the streets of London, with a belief that it will help to bring freedom, justice and peace. So far, we have only heard words but no actions.
For the last fifteen days, a young student, Parameswaran Subramaniyum, began a hunger strike to his death, in front of the Temple of Democracy, urging you and your Government to do the necessary now. We all know in detail what your Government has being doing diplomatically, none of which has given us the confidence that our people in Vanni will be safeguarded against the terrors they face daily.
The International Crisis Group captured the essence of the conflict, "How the war ends will be critical to Sri Lanka's future "Will it be in a bloody massacre whose memory will be used to incite decades more war and terrorism? "Or will we see renewed efforts to find a negotiated end to the fighting, and with it, the possibility of building a new, more peaceful Sri Lanka for all its people?" The people in Vanni have no choice in this, the burden falls on your shoulders, your decisions will define how this war will endplease make the correct decision and take actions to stop this war to ensure a peaceful solution.

In a historic show of solidarity, more than 200,000 British Tamils, nearly two thirds of Tamils resident in Britain, marched through the streets of London Saturday demanding immediate ceasefire and recognition of Tamil Eelam. Sparked off by the initiative of second generation diaspora Tamil youth and students four days earlier, the Saturday's march became an unprecedented rallying point for the entire community, attracting the old students associations of the educational institutions of Eezham Tamils, functioning in London. The spirited participation of teens and mothers with babies in pushchairs significantly marked the level of community involvement in the agitation. This march was organised by British Tamils Forum.

Over ten thousand mourners attended the funeral service of Murugathasan Varnakulasingham at the Shree Kutch Leva Patel Sports & Community Centre in Ruislip on March 7th 2009. Mr Varnakulasingham, a resident of Harrow in London, sought to publicise the grave suffering of the Tamils in Sri Lanka by setting himself on fire during a protest outside the United Nations complex in the Place des Nations in Geneva on the 12th of February 2009.
In a written statement found 10 metres from the site of the self immolation, Mr Varnakulasingham expressed deep sadness at the inaction of international community and international organisations like the UN in putting a halt to Sri Lankas genocide of Tamils. He stated that he could not find a better way to expose this truth than to sacrifice his own life before the international community. He wrote "We Tamils, displaced and all over the world, loudly raised our problems and asked for help before [the] international community in your own language for three decades. But nothing happened... So I decided to sacrifice my life... The flames over my body will be a torch to guide you through the liberation path."

No matter what we do, we are screwed. Our white masters are investing in Chinglakalam instead of boycuting them. I'd say, lets scrub our white masters toilets for free. They might listen to us then.
