(ENG) Russian-British Creative economy forum 2011
The first Russian - British Creative Economy forum took place from 30th September till 1st October 2011.The forum was established by the British Council Russia together with British Embassy in Moscow and Creative Industries agency as the first part from the series of the large-scale public events for the policy makers and leaders in the creative industries sector. Understanding the importance of the creative industries as a strategic priority for reinvigorating economic growth, employment and social cohesion, we wanted to link up British and Russian expertise to discuss the main issues of this rapidly developing sector of the global economy.
The Forum and further wider programme are facilitated by Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy.

Yuri Gagarin's statue unveiling, London, 14 July 2011
A statue of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, was unveiled outside the British Council's London headquarters in the Mall 14July 2011 to mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight. The statue's arrival in London reinforces the cultural and scientific ties between the UK and Russia.
The statue, a gift from the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) to the British Council, will stand in the Mall for a period of 12 months. It was unveiled by HRH Prince Michael of Kent and Elena Gagarina, the cosmonaut's daughter and Director of the Kremlin Museums, exactly fifty years to the day that Yuri Gagarin met with the Queen as part of his visit to the UK in 1961.
Others who attended the unveiling ceremony included Vladimir Popovkin, Federal Minister for Space and Head of Russian Federal Space Agency; Sergei Krikalev, the cosmonaut-Director of Star City; Natalia Koroleva, daughter of Sergei Korolev, the 'Chief Designer' of the Soviet space programme and Helen Sharman, Britain's first astronaut.

12 New British Film festival, lectures and seminars
On 2-13 November 2011 British Council Russia in partnership with Coolconnections art association, Formula Kino Gorizont and Garage Centre for the Contemporary Culture ran the XII New British Film Festival. The festival included 15 new movies by leading British film directors, Q&A with specially invited guests and large professional development programme on cinema. 2-13 ноября 2011 г. прошёл XII фестиваль "Новое британское кино", организованный Британским Советом совместно с арт-объединением "Coolconnections", кинотеатром "Формула Кино Горизонт" и Центром современной культуры "Гараж". В рамках фестиваля были показаны 15 картин, снятых молодыми британскими режиссёрами, прошли встречи с приглашёнными актёрами и продюсерами, а также программа профессионального развития в области кино.
