A channel dedicated to retro trailers and soundtracks from films of the 70's 80's and 90's. You know back when things were actually good and there was talent in abundence.
The main channel BringBackTheEighties was suspended in June 2010. Thanks to those who supported it for the last two years.

About Me:
I love action, scifi/fantasy, horror, and historical movies mostly. I enjoy comedies too, the quirkier the better.
I became interested in soundtracks in the late 80s after a teacher made us listen to the soundtrack from Aliens in a pitch black auditorium. The track by James Horner was Sub Level 3, it scared the crap out of everyone. From that day I collected soundtracks on CD. My favourite composers would be Jerry Goldsmith, Howard Shore, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Michael Kamen, Basil Poledouris, Pino Donaggio, Fabio Frizzi (thanks Carmie!) John Barry, Lalo Schifrin (and early James Horner)
I hope you enjoy the channel and it brings back some good memories. I like talking about music and movies so feel free to leave a message...

No I've heard of Luck but not seen. I don't have HBO, I think that's where it airs. Usually after a year or so our local cable channels get those shows. Certainly with Mann on board I'm interested. Nice to see him back on the tube after "Robbery Homicide Division" which was maybe the best U.S. cop tv series I've ever seen, shame it only lasted 10 episodes but oh well.

Hey back. Swell. Our weather hasn't been too bad for this time of year, almost no snow, a few chilly days but sometimes quite warm for Jan. We're supposed to get 2-3cm of snow friday so I guess our luck won't last. Yeah I saw "Love on the Run" again last week and that theme song just crept back into my head again and wouldn't leave hee hee. No not seen TTSS yet, but planning too. I still haven't read any of Le Carre's novels but with the exception of "The Little Drummer Girl" seen all the film adaptations of his work and mostly been pleased with them so I'm sure its worth catching.

Oh no problem. Yeah JC's The Thing never tires me out, I was lucky to see it at the Royal Cinema about 8 or 9 years ago. In fact I got to see it about 4 or 5 times, I think everytime they showed it in fact hee hee. That's how you do a remake, still Carpenter's finest hour and that's saying something. Oh well, glad you'll be on break soon. Thanks, hope you and your family have a nifty Christmas. *cue the sleigh bells* :)

Moore delievered his script before the director was chosen and once Matthijs was hired, I guess he didn't like it since that's when the rewrites began. I remember reading some time ago Matthijis wanted a helicopter pilot to be Macready's brother! Which I thought was a bad contrivance. I think maybe he wanted to have some Yanks thrown in there, where Moore wanted to keep it all Norweigan. I did also hear again don't quote me but that Moore was more of a full blown prequel that could stand on its own, and Eric's was more of a remake of JC's. I found an interview with Moore from a few months back but he says he has no idea what was changed since he went on his own to let them make it once he finished work so he has to see it himself to see the difference. I hope he does explain what was changed so at least I can know what might have been.

Not much luck in finding out, I heard that the director wanted a slower pace and less CGI but Universal insisted on the reverse but that may have been internet BS. Producer Marc Abraham was quoted as saying the reshoots were: "to enhance existing sequences or to make crystal clear a few story beats or to add punctuation marks to the film's feeling of dread". source: Hitfix. All that sounds like typical PR spin so not very helpful. Maybe it tested badly in previews, it sounds like something went wrong. MInd you I didn't read Moore's script so it maybe awful for all I know, but just given his writing work on Star Trek TNG and DS9 and his stellar writing on the new BSG series, I can't help but believe his script was way better than the one Eric H. that was shot given Eric's rewrites probably helped damage the NIghtmare on Elm remake and he also wrote Final Destination 5 which lets face it is not a series that requires great creativity other than the method of character kills.

hee hee yeah I really got to get the "Drive" soundtrack, I'm hooked on the tracks. Oh ok, just as well, I didn't go first run to see "The Thing" prequel/remake, it looks like the second runs aren't booking it, considering it tanked at the box office, can't really blame them. Yeah apparently the reshoots resulted in increased CGI shots, which didn't help it seems. Ok well my curiiousity will make me see it eventutally but I'll wait for video. Too bad, if they stuck to Ronald D. Moore's original script could have been something. Yeah but first for Ridley, "Promethus" which judging by the bootleg trailer is an Alien prequel, they were being coy on what it actually was.

Hey!! I got your email, will be replying in the morning when I'm not half asleep, haha. I'm working on freelance at the mo, you can totally see where I'm coming from with that. Up to my neck in bullshit copy. I have to figure out how to do the Instant Messenger thingy so we can catch up! We need a nice, proper catch up, too. John's good, he's on set right now working on a TV show. He's picked up a lot of work. Just got our computer back, and we were without cable for a week, so we're a bit behind on TWD, maybe by just two episodes. *hugs*

Wowzah this must be the new channel design their talking about. Yeah Showcase channel used to show Gothic never really watched it from start to finish I really should. Ken was a true orginal we won't see any guy like him again. :( Yeah if Desmond Lllewyn was still alive I'd be mad but since he sadly passed, Q is up for grabs so. Having seen Ben's work in Perfume, and Evening Star I think he could be a good choice.
