Brian drew from his eclectic experiences to develop the talent and skill required to be a world class recording artist. Brian's first-generation Portuguese upbringing immersed him in song and dance from a young age. His brothers played in a Portuguese wedding/rock band and would coax a young Brian onstage to play tambourine.
One of the major events in Brian's life that led him to be one of Canada's foremost singer/songwriter occurred in high school, and caused Brian to choose his destiny by default. He registered for a vocal class hoping to get an easy credit. That's where Brian met someone who would change his life: Linda Gatto, his vocal teacher. She recognized his talent and helped to build confidence in his voice. That year there was no choir at the school, so the vocal class became the choir. Gatto used her influence to have several of her students sing back-up vocals for Shania Twain, on stage at Copps Coliseum. Cheering fans re-energized Brian's dream of a career in music.
"That was the moment...the rush of hearing 20 thousand people screaming back at me.....after that I knew I had to do this, somehow." Brian picked up a guitar, learned to play and started writing songs. He auditioned for Canadian Idol and won with an overwhelming majority.
Brian recorded his platinum-selling single "All I Ever Wanted". It was released to radio/iTunes at midnight immediately following the Canadian Idol finale on September 11, 2007 and the rest, as they say, is history. Brian began to look to the future. Having written songs since the age of 6, the melodic sounds and rhythmic vibes on his second CD release The Truth reflects Brian's prowess as a bona fide talent.
"I found inspiration for writing almost everywhere; in my family, in the stories about my hometown, in both the successes and struggles that I had experienced personally. I tried to capture a lot of those emotions in the lyrics and melodies you hear on The Truth. I poured my heart and soul into this music and I believe that my fans will be pleased."
Brian is deeply connected to his fans and believes in community. He continues to give back with his support of The Boys and Girls club of Hamilton. The organization has instituted the Brian Melo scholarship for emerging artists. Brian continues to speak publicly and takes the lead as role model and public speaker. He continues to gain new fans with his music and youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user... where he performs his stylish and unique version of popular songs.
Melo names Radiohead, the Foo Fighters, John Lennon and Queen as some of his musical influences. He has written over 70 songs over the last 2 years and is anxious to share them with his fans on their favorite television shows, movies and in concert.
"That's what it's all about. Performing on stage is where I am at home! I give every ounce of heart and soul that I have to the fans. They've paid a lot of money for their ticket, so I've got to make sure that I earn it."
